May has been a busy month, had some great fun racing, achieved some good results, got my cat 2 and then ended up getting ill and spending 3 days in bed. Not the best prep for my first road race coming up on the 5th June, but hopefully I haven’t lost any or too much fitness, either way I’m really looking forward to the Portsmouth North End Summer Road Race.  Then the following week after that race will be the first event of the Junior National Series, The Tour of Yorkshire which is 3 stages on the 12-13th June. With round 2 of the Junior National Series on the 27th June - The Cicle Classic.
Finally lots to look forward too, I can’t wait !

Thruxton (18/5)

I haven’t raced at thruxton for a long time, think I was 13 or 14 the last time I did a circuit race there. The race had a full field of 60 riders that pre entered, I didn’t know many of the names on the start list as I haven’t raced that much with the Seniors so wasn’t sure what to expect. As soon as we were out of the neutralised section I pushed on to pick up the speed, a few failed attempts at breaks happened in the first lap and a half and I covered them all but they didn’t feel like they were going anywhere.  Just before the end of the 2nd lap, after the chicane Ollie Hurdle attacked and I went with him, we quickly got a good gap on the bunch.  Another rider bridged across and we stayed as a 3 until about 4 laps to go, then it as down to 2. We kept pushing on and couldn’t see the rest of the field so we had a decent lead. About 2 laps to go Ollie attacked and I wasn’t quick enough to respond, he held the gap for that lap and on the final lap I was catching him quickly, but not quick enough. Ollie was 1st and I was 2nd, about 10m behind. Really enjoyed the race.

Portsmouth (19/5)

A much smaller field than the previous day but some good fast racing.

And a good chance for a rematch with Ollie

He the won the cat3 race and I was 2nd, again ! 10 minutes later we raced in the cat1/2 race and we was in a break with Ben Williams. Ben went early on the last lap, I pulled up and Ollie chased on, I then rushed the gap on Ollie with perfect timing to go past them both, I was 1st, Ollie was 2nd and Ben 3rd.
