Hatherleigh Road Race - Junior National Road Series.
A tough route in really bad conditions, but I think it actually suited me. I often train in the rain as I don’t like using a turbo trainer. Before the race I decided I wouldn’t attack or follow any for at least the first 45 minutes. Well that didn’t go to plan, I think I lasted about 10km before the first attack of the day.
It was a really good race with constant efforts to get away, Splits in the attacks and at one point I had to bridge across solo for some time to reach the front 5 riders. When the 6 of us reached the start of the 2 smaller circuit laps to the finish we had over a minute on the bunch, which grew quickly to over 2 minutes. The closer we got to the finish I knew it was going to be a sprint from the 6 of us, a sprint finish is definitely not something I’m know for but hoped I had more left than others after a full on race.
I pushed all the way to line and was really happy to take 2nd place.
The following weekend was Guido Reybrouck in Belgium with Cannibal Team.
A flat fast race with cobbled sections.
Tried to get away a few times but not my day, finished 31st in the bunch.
Not the individual result I wanted, but i was still pleased with how I rode throughout the race and was really pleased for the Team to take 1st and 3rd
Busy couple of weeks of training but also including - RCR FatCreations National B Road Race, VC Venta Time Trial and then …..
